| Carat is a diamond's measure of weight, not size. One
full carat is equal to 100 points. A 3/4 carat diamond
is the same as 75 points. Since larger diamonds are found
less frequently in nature, a 1 carat diamond will cost
more than twice a 1/2 carat diamond (assuming all other
characteristics remain constant). The cut and the mounting
can make a diamond appear larger than its actual weight.
Your Master IJO Jeweler will help you find the right diamond
and mounting to optimize its beauty. |

This diagram demonstrates the various sizes
of diamonds and how they appear when set in a solitaire
setting.
The value of a diamond is determined by its rarity. Larger
diamonds are not uncovered in the mining process as often
as smaller diamonds. Thus larger stones are more precious
and rare. |
Which carat weight
is right for you?
When choosing a diamond consider all the C's. Rank their
importance to you and also consider your budget. If this
is a gift, maybe the recipient has dropped hints as to
what they desire. Find a balance between all of the characteristics
of the stone. And keep in mind that the setting or mounting
you choose at your local Independent Master IJO Jeweler,
for this stone will also enhance its beauty and the way
it is displayed.
